A few words about the Managing Director
In 2006 Liz Taylor’s dream was realised when her company tendered and won the contract to provide food and beverage at Fort Denison. The venue had been closed for some time, there was no restaurant, and very few events. Liz, never afraid of a challenge, rolled up her sleeves with her team close behind her and they got to work.
Born and raised on a sheep and cattle station at Cunnamulla in Outback Queensland, Liz applied so many of the skills she learnt from her days in the bush to Fort Denison. Her love of food began when thrown in the deep end one year, needing to cook for the entire shearing team for a whole month, aged 18. She went on to become a fully qualified chef, but now retired from the kitchen, she manages and directs the day to day restaurant and event operations at the island.
Liz is the driving force behind what has become one of Sydney’s darlings of iconic waterfront dining, creating a destination of choice at Fort Denison for the locals and out of town visitors. Recently reviewed as one of the world’s top 5 waterfront eateries, and more recently as the No 1 Summer Bar in Sydney, this is testament to her vision and tenacity.
