Tours & Museum
Fort Denison is open every day for visitors to discover Sydney’s maritime and colonial history and explore the historical landmark and its features, such as the distinctive Martello Tower – the only one of its kind to be built in Australia.
Visitors can wander the fort at their leisure on a self-guided tour, or take a guided tour of the island and its museum.
Guided tours
Guided tours of Fort Denison are operated up to three times daily. The 30-minute tours are lead by NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service rangers, who take visitors around the island, exploring its colourful past, the distinctive Martello Tower, museum containing colonial artefacts, and other fort facilities.
Guided tour packages include return ferry to Fort Denison from Circular Quay and also cover park fees (passed on to NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service, who manages the island as part of Sydney Harbour National Park).
Tour times:
Mon and Tues - 12.15pm and 2.30pm
Wed-Sun - 10.45am, 12.15pm and 2.30pm

Stand-by tours
If spaces on guided tours become available at the last minute, Fort Denison can offer stand-by tickets to visitors already on the island, for tours on the same day.
